Tonka diffuser oils

Tonka bean is vanilla's more interesting cousin: warm and sweet, but with almond, hay and a faint tobacco dryness that keeps it from ever becoming dessert. In a diffuser oil it is a finishing note, used in small amounts to give a base its velvet.

Six ISCENT compositions use it. Royal Amber sets tonka beside vanilla under amber and musk for a living room that holds its poise. Milano threads it through amberwood and musk for evenings in the city. Black Tea and Fig closes fig and spice on caramel, vanilla and tonka for a lamplit library. Velvet Rouge pairs it with rum, peach and sandalwood for a bedroom in the cooler months. Christmas Time and Festive Treat use it for the season, against pine and cinnamon, or buttercream and baking spice.

Tonka belongs to evenings and to the rooms where people gather: lounges, dining rooms, a living room after dark. It is persistent, so a low setting in short sessions is enough, and cold-air diffusion keeps the almond facet clean where heated diffusion would caramelise it. A 100 ml bottle in the Ensō lasts about three weeks to a month at roughly eight hours a day.
